Two's Classroom Introduction

CLASSROOM INFORMATION

CLASS:    Two’s Classroom              TEACHER: Miss Amanda B

Welcome to the Two’s Classroom!  My name is Miss Amanda B and I will be your child’s Teacher.  I have been here at Joyful Noise working with children for almost 11 years.  I have a Bachelors Degree in Human Services as well as classes in Early Childhood Education and over 11 years of training.  I am married; I have one step-son named Kaleb, one son named Cash and a dog named Penny.

This year I will be doing age appropriate activities that will help your child learn and grow.  I am using Creative Curriculum to plan activities involving Social, Emotional, Language, Physical, Critical, Mathematical, World Knowledge and Christian Development.  I have planned activities that will challenge your child to learn more about themselves and the environment around them.

If you take a look outside the classroom you will see my lesson plans are attached to the classroom bulletin board.  The lesson plans will give you an idea of what your child will be doing each day in class. These are tentative lesson plans that could change due to weather, or other activities that may come up.  We do many of our educational activities before lunch including circle time, centers and art.  Please take a look at our daily schedule located on the classroom bulletin board to see the breakdown of our preschool curriculum time.  If you ever have question or comments about something that you see, please feel free to contact me at any time.  I check my Joyful Noise email periodically or you can leave a message with the office and I will return your call at my earliest convenience.

Each child will have two cubbies outside of the classroom; one under our birthday board and one on the shelf above the coat hangers.  The cubby under our birthday board will be for a change of clothing and nap time items.  Please make sure that there is always at least one change of clothing in that cubby each day. During the summer months, from the beginning of June to the end of August, bring a bathing suit and a towel for water days.  During the winter months please have a hat, gloves, coat and boots for outdoor play.  If your child wears boots to school, please bring a pair of shoes for indoor play.  I prefer tennis shoes because they are the best running shoes for the fast pace of the children.  Please do not bring your child in flip flops as they make it difficult for the children to participate during physical activity times.  Also remember to label everything that belongs to your child that is brought to school.  A good place to label an item is on the tag.

The cubby located above the coat hanger will be for daily things that we will send home.  Please check this cubby every day for notices from the classroom and office as well as any projects that are being sent home.

Many of the children have been introduced to the potty in the Toddler Classroom.  We will continue to introduce the potty in the Two’s Classroom and encourage every child to try the potty.  I advise each parent to begin with pull-ups if their child is showing signs of wanting to try the potty more frequently.  Pull-ups are great at helping a child build independent skills with the potty.  When your child is ready for underwear, they may begin wearing it at school when they have had three consecutive days of dry pull-ups or diapers.  If they have more than one accident a day, I will require that they wear plastic underwear over their underwear at school for sanitary reasons.

We nap and have quiet time from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm every day on our cots.  Please make sure that your child has a sheet and a blanket for their cot.  We will send them home at the end of the week to be washed at home and returned the following week.

Please limit the amount of toys that your child brings into the classroom from home.  It is not uncommon that our toys get lost or misplaced and we do not want anyone to lose their toy.  Many children are also still exploring their environment by placing things in their mouth; by keeping your child’s toys at home you are reducing the spread of germs.  Your child may bring one small stuffed animal or similar to class to sleep with at nap time.  Please remember to label the tag with your child’s name.

Each month we will be doing book orders.  I will put a packet of book orders in each cubby at the beginning of the month for parents to look over.  The due date will be on the book order; if you could return your order and check made out to Scholastic by the due date I will get them ordered for you.   I will also have account information and instructions attached to the September Book Order Form on how to shop for books and order online.

If you ever have any questions feel free to call me at work or email me.  I usually work 7:00am – 3:00pm and you can reach me at 616-847-6600.  My email is twosroomatjn@gmail.com and I check it periodically.  Information about the classroom as well as the monthly newsletter and calendar can be found online at http://www.joyfulnoisekids.com

God Bless,

Miss Amanda B.
