Breakfast Fun

We practice colors, shapes and counting as much as we can in the 2's Classroom.  We used breakfast time as an opportunity to practice this week.  One morning we had mandarin oranges with our oatmeal.  We talked about the shape and color of the orange.  We also counted the orange pieces after they were peeled.  When we were done, we ate them!  (The pieces of orange, not the peel of course :) ) 

Counting in the 2's Class

The 2's class has been working really hard on our numbers 1-5 this past week.  Everyone can count from 1 to 5, but we needed a little bit more practice recognizing the numbers and counting up to 5 objects.  We are going to work on this next week too.  

Parents can help and practice at home too.  When you see any of the numbers 1-5, point them out to your child.  You can also go on number hunts.  Choose a number, for example number 2, and see how many number 2's you can find around your house.  You can also get out 5 items and make different combinations for your child to count.  

In the 2's class most of the children count 1-10 really fast (even if there are only 3 objects), so we have been working on slowing down when we are counting.  When we slow down the counting process, it is easier to recognize how many objects we are counting.
