I wanted to take a moment to talk about potty time. Potty training can be an easy task for some children and a harder task for others. Each child's potty training adventure is going to be unique. I have been assisting with potty training for over 10 years and I have never had two children that were exactly alike.
Throughout the potty training adventure there might be days and weeks where a child is going to the potty regularly. There might also be days where a child refuses to go potty, even if they had been going before. Some children potty all the time at home and refuse to potty at school or even out in public. Some children potty at school and refuse to potty at home.
No matter how your child is progressing with potty training, approach it positively. It may feel like potty training is taking forever, but each child is going to get it, on their own time, at their own pace.
My son was fully potty trained at home for a couple of months before he was potty trained at school. All of his teachers were amazing and very helpful, yet he just preferred to potty at home. And that was okay, stressful at times, but it was okay.
Potty training in the Two's Classroom is child led. We try to offer the potty as often as the children want to try. If a child says no, or gets upset about the potty, we never force them to try. We encourage going potty through our books and play too. We talk about how exciting going potty is. When a child does go potty we give them a potty treat and a lot of encouragement.
If you look at your daily sheet you can see how your child does on the potty each day. Below is an explanation of what each abbreviation means:
D/TP: Dry and tried potty
W/TP: Wet and tried potty
D/P: Dry and went potty
W/P: Wet and went potty
D/BM: Dry and had a bowel movement on potty
W/BM: Wet and had a bowel movement on potty
D/RP: Dry and refused the potty
W/RP: Wet and refused the potty
I am always just an email away if you have any questions or concerns. I try to check my email periodically, and usually can respond shortly after I receive an email.
